why you do anything is why you do everything

Give to give. The joy is in giving yourself. Your art, craft, voice, passion, pleasure, knowledge, story, love, presence and Soul. The more you give, the more you grow.
Everything is up for sale, it’s a price tag world; you can purchase likes, followings, and pay your way to validation. You can belittle others to feel tall or play bullshit power games. This is the demand of the ego, it is clever, and it’s a sneaky beast that promotes a cycle of false fulfillment.
Hunger of the deepest kind, comes from the Soul. The only cost is choosing to ignore the soul’s work for instant gratifications and selling yourself to the crowds. The Soul tasks us to go inside, move away from an audience, to be still, to listen, to feel ourselves, to fill up and serve, empty the waste, and continue to heal and give our reality to ourselves and others. Every moment we do not move from the soul, we are selling ourselves short.
Your value does not rest in the attentions of purchasing powers. Your value does not rest in being good at press handstands or backbends. Your value is not worn in the clothes your wear or the products you use. Your value is not up for competition or playing victim. You are so much more than all that shit. Your value is determined by your why. Why you started the work within. Why you are called to do this work. My why brings me to tears and guts me. My why moves me into radical self love and action that continues to guide me in my own unique way. My why is motherhood. My why is my depression. My why is to continue to do the work from the inside-out, not the outside-in. My why is yoga. My why is to teach others about themselves. My why is stand strong, brave, bold, vulnerable, and honest on my best days, as well as my worst. My why is my curiosity and wonder. My why is my reality.
Let your why be known. Let it be felt. Be fucking seen. Exactly as you are as the hero within. As you reveal your hero, you awaken others as their own hero. Rise up and give yourself away. It’s in your presence, your breath, your love. The point of it all is to make it purposeful, leading with endless curiosity and wonder. We are here to give it away, that’s the joy.

go inside. go the fuck inside.

your only choice in life is to feel. how long will you run? how long can you hide? when do you stop blaming? when does responsibility step in? are you here to pretend or are you here to get real? be real. it's the feeling-body that shows us to get really-real. fuck that fake shit.
Go inside.
The moment you begin to judge someone, go inside.
The moment you want to blame someone, go inside.
The moment you want to react toward someone, go inside.
The moment you want to give the stink eye, huff, growl, hair flip, whatever-have-you, go inside.
The moment you begin to feel some density with someone - pissed off, angry, low, flustered, whatever it is, go the fuck inside.
And realize this.
Your reaction to anyone, anything - especially when it starts to drive a force of judgment, blame, competition, jealousy, anger, or anything that leaves you in a hot, heady, heated space - go inside. This is information. It is tapping you on the shoulder saying, “hey, there is something going on that you need to take a look at.” Life is requesting your attention to notice your thoughts, your patterns, your beliefs, your behaviors, your actions and what you need to dig into - for yourself.
So often we want to blame others or find safety in victim-hood. So often we prefer to numb our ways. The moment we begin to feel, is the moment we want to bow out. It takes place on the yoga mat as much as it takes place in our life. The body wants to move through the heavy shit. It’s the mind, the ego, that wants to knit such heaviness to banter this life and our relationships. When you really go inside with yourself, especially on the mat, you’ll have no choice but to feel. We numb so much in our lives, especially pain. When we numb pain, we numb everything else. You cannot ignore one part of your life, without ignoring all of your life. It is all connected, supported, and woven.
Often times I will tell students to feel it out, let stuff come up, get shaky, sit in the uncomfortable, feel what is real. If you’re smiling through it, awesome. If you’re hating through it, awesome. If you want to curse at me, I can take it. Because what is true is that everything you feel and all the gooey stuff that comes up has absolutely nothing to do with me (or others). The goal is to feel. My job, as a teacher, is to help you get there and simply guide you to go inside.

It was never mine to keep. Checking myself everyday.

It was never mine to keep.

I'm a teacher, photographer, artist, writer, soul activist, I am here to give.
Some people will be inspired to give to give. And will inspire others to give to give. Some people will take to take.

For me, I have to let go of the art itself. I have to let go of my attachment to holding on to the things that are not mine to keep. By sharing, I give wholly, giving to give. This is the purpose. This is our purpose.

I give my words because they are meant to tell a story outside of myself. When they're re-used and said, that is connection with others. I give my photos because they are meant to show a story outside of myself. When they're seen and shared, that is connection with others.

I used to be so attached to holding onto pieces of me, I would watermark my photos, ask for credit, and police my art as a part of the process. I thought holding on to ownership was a part of the art itself. I realized that it was my ego desperate for recognition and ownership, it needed to be seen. A name tag, if you will. It needed something I couldn't give. And I began to recognize a shift, a purpose in sharing myself. To give away.
