The experiment

Sometimes we are louder for others than we are for ourselves.

In every class, there’s two cues of breath that I love to do with students. Typically, after the challenging part of class, or the edge, if you will. I guide students to take one, big inhale through their nose for themselves and sigh it out for themselves. I’ll then guide students to take one, big breath in for their neighbor, the person sitting next to them in class, and sigh it out for their neighbor.
In every class, the breath is always bigger, louder, and fuller for the neighbor. It is beautiful and loving and giving. That’s the community that we speak of with this practice.

Please know that your breath for yourself can be just as big, full, and noisy - if not more - for yourself.

Sometimes we are louder for others than for ourselves.
